Description

A clay vessel from the Shipibo-Conibo People of Peru. The Shipibo are known for labyrinthine geometric designs that reflect their culture and their cosmology. The painted lines on this vessel are a reflection of this connection with geometry. The main elements of the designs are the square, the rhombus, the octagon. This vessel has a face painted and molded onto it. The face has two eyes, a nose and mouth. The lower 1/3 of the vessel is unpainted.
