Description

This item is a hand crafted Yagua mask. The Yagua are an indigenous people in Colombia and northeastern Peru.  This mask was likely made as a decorative piece for tourists coming through the village. Yagua masks are carved from gourds or dried wood. The mask is etched with tribal designs, and is then painted with dyes derived from fruit, vegetables, seeds, and flowers. Strands of beads and oval leather pieces hang from the ears and bottom of the mask.
