Description

This is a huipil made by an indigenous Trique weaver from Mexico. The Trique live in the western part of the Mexican state of Oaxaca, centered in the municipalities of Juxtlahuaca, Tlaxiaco and Putla. This huipil was hand woven on a backstrap loom and has three panels divided by gold satin ribbon seams. Decorative black and red satin ribbons are also attached to the top of huipil at the head opening. The designs were added during the weaving process using supplemental weft brocading. This brocading is of mixed synthetic and cotton thread of different colors.
